A Formidable Team

God, the Father, and Jesus are a formidable team. God is the Creator God. He speaks and things happen. From nothing, everything is brought into being. Even humans are formed by His hands and through His Godly breath, we come alive.

Jesus is exactly like God and the One who maintains everything. His Father taught Him to speak, and things will happen. How wonderful! It is beyond my human understanding to comprehend exactly how:

3By his Son, God created the world in the beginning, and it will all belong to the Son at the end. This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God’s nature. He holds everything together by what he says-powerful words!

Even here, in our lives today, this formidable team keeps working. I experienced it myself in a quite significant way.

It was late one evening when a very anxious neighbour in the camp site came knocking. Please come and help. Her husband was experiencing bad chest pains.

My head was spinning as I wondered what to do. Then I remembered the doctor who was camping higher up in the bush. We ran to get her, while my son and a few friends went to call another doctor.

Thank goodness. Two doctors were available to assist Neighbour. In the meantime, I went to get the bakkie ready to drive the patient into town.

Later Dr. Schalk told us what had happened.

When he arrived, he realised Neighbour was not in a good place. He had a weak heart. He had this little device that he fixed to Neighbour’s finger to measure his heartbeat. Nothing. He tried another finger, but nothing. Dr. E. tried for a pulse. Nothing.

His heart had stopped.

Dr. E. said softly: “We’ve lost him.”

Quickly thinking what option to try next, Dr. Schalk simply kept calm, put his hands around Neighbour’s neck and said clearly: “In Jesus’ Name, open your eyes.” As Dr. Schalk said later on, he got quite a fright when Neighbour immediately opened his eyes.

Softly his heart started beating rhythmically again.

Two days later Neighbour was back with two new stents. Somewhat quiet, speechless and amazed. His family too. The other campers and us also chatted softly about our almighty God who was still working with us today.

“He holds everything together by what he says… “

Reflection
What does this formidable team mean to you?
Where do you need the team right now?
To whom must you take the team?

Prayer
God and Jesus. What a team! What amazing deeds You did in the past and still do now. The world cannot survive without You. All honour and glory to your team. Amen.
