Thimphu (the capital city), Paro, Punakha, Bumthang, Trongsa, Gasa, etc are important places in Bhutan you will love to visit and explore. Here is brief information about some of major attractions of Bhutan tourism.
Centenary Farmers Market
Located in the capital town Thimphu, the Centenary Farmers Market is a great attraction for tourists in Bhutan. It is one of the biggest structures in the country. Here you can see several separate stalls for vegetables, fruits, nuts, beetle, dry fish, dairy products, etc. There are also some wholesale stores, meat shops, and tea & coffee stalls. You will also see here cafeteria and separate stalls for non wood forest products. The market is closed on Wednesday.
Tashichhoe Dzong
The Tashichhoe Dzong is the most prominent landmark and tourist place in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Literally it means “Fortress of the Glorious Religion”. It is an impressive white washed structure. This magnificent building houses the throne room and offices of the King of Bhutan. It also houses the Central Secretariat, the offices of the ministries of Home Affairs and Finance.
Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA)
Located in Thimphu, RAPA is an important tourist attraction. The main purpose of this institute is preserving and promotion performing art tradition of the county. Hence, this institute provides triaging on Bhutanese traditional dances and mask dances. Trained dances of RAPA perform during the annual dance festival called Thimphu Tsechu.
National Textile Museum
Located in Thimphu, this textile museum displays collection of Bhutanese textiles. It is the good place to know about extensive and rich culture and living art of Bhutanese weaving.
National Museum
Located in Paro, National Museum is a worth visit destinations on Bhutan tour. A visit to this famous museum introduces travelers with the colorful vistas of Bhutan’s culture and history.
National Memorial Chorten (Stupa)
Also known as Thimphu Chorten, it is a magnificent monument located in Thimphu. It features mandalas, statues and alter dedicated to the third Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan. It is famously known as “the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan”. The architectural beauty of this Chorten never fails to lure visitors.
Apart from aforementioned attractions, there are many other attractions and interesting tourist places in Bhutan. National Library, National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Simtokha Dzong, Dechen Phodrang Monastery, Dechencholing Palace, Tango Monastery, Cheri Monastery, Buddha Dordenma, Clock Tower Square, Punakha, Jigme Dorji National Park, Kurje Lhakhang, Chimi Lhakhang, Kyichu Lhakhang, Takstang Lhakhang, etc are some other attractions of Bhutan Tourism. Apart from sightseeing, travelers can also enjoy trekking, hiking and other adventure activities.
