Biotoi Camping Toilets Reviewed

ToggleI’m one of those people that enjoys camping trips but frequently despairs at the thought of using the toilet facilities. Why is it that they are frequently so bad? They’re not just a little below par – they’re frequently unclean and completely unhygienic.
Some have suggested that I investigate the option of taking my own portable camping toilet on my next trip. This sounds like a good solution. In this article I’m going to review one that has only appeared here in the UK relatively recently – it’s known as the Biotoi.
Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at this product.
Let’s begin by describing the BioToi. It basically consists of two main elements: a frame and a biodegradable bag. The frame folds up nice and small. This is a good start – too many camping toilets that I’ve looked at simply haven’t been as portable as they should be. It’s clear that this particular model would easily fit into a car.
I feel somewhat suspicious when looking at the frame though. I’m wondering whether it would take my weight. The only way to find out is to try it out. Having done so, I’m pleased to report that it feels rather strong.
It’s capable of holding someone of my size, which is pleasantly surprising. So what about these biodegradable bags. These are, I’m told, one of the key selling points of this model. They can be used, I am assured to make compost.
This gives them a distinct advantage when compared to some other camping toilet products that are on the market. You won’t need to worry about harming the environment. You may also have noticed that I haven’t mentioned any of the chemicals that are often associated with camping toilets.
There’s a simple reason for that: the Biotoi doesn’t need any chemicals. This seems to me to be a good thing. I have a natural tendency to worry and have never really liked the thought of having chemicals in close proximity to my children, or even my pet dog.
So how do I rate the Biotoi overall? I have to say that I would score it highly. It’s certainly compact, meaning that you can transport it around nice and easily. This gives it the edge over many toilets that don’t have folding mechanisms.
Despite having a lightweight frame, I felt very secure when using it. That’s important too. Finally, it’s environmental credentials seem to be extremely good.
It’s an innovative product and one that I would certainly recommend if you’re looking for a good portable camping toilet.
