ToggleBarbados is a diverse holiday destination that offers a wide range of experiences, whether you’re arriving at the island via a Caribbean cruise or by air.
One of its most notable events is the annual Barbados Jazz Festival, which takes place in the second week of January and sees a plethora of local and international stars put on special live shows at venues around the island.
Rachelle Ferrell, Errol Bradshaw, Herbie Hancock, Alicia Keys, Anita Baker, Dionne Warwick and David Sanborn are among those who have previously played at the festival – which should give you a taste of the high calibre of the jazz talent that appear at the event every year.
Those visiting the Caribbean for the Barbados Jazz Festival can see performers sing and play live at venues such as the Sunbury Plantation House – which is more than 300 years old – and the Farley Hill National Park, which offers superb picnicking opportunities.
Another popular jazz show location is the Cane Pit Amphitheatre at the Foursquare Rum Distillery in Heritage Park.
The festival also offers the chance to explore some of Barbados’s other sights and attractions, whether you choose to do so before or after event, or perhaps between performances.
You could indulge in activities ranging from water sports such as yachting, diving and swimming to land-based pursuits like horse-riding and golf.
History buffs may well want to take in attractions such as the Barbados Museum and Gun Hill, while nature enthusiasts might be interested in the many gardens and parks scattered across the island.
One of the main highlights of a Barbados holiday has to be a trip to Harrison’s Cave, which is filled with crystallised limestone, amazing rock formations and eerie pools and waterfalls.
If you’re heading to Barbados with children – or if you’re an animal lover yourself – then the island’s zoo and wildlife reserve could be of particular interest.
With more attractions to be discovered – as well as some great food, friendly locals and a host of night-time entertainment opportunities – Barbados is the perfect destination for both jazz fans and those looking for the ultimate Caribbean holiday.
