Table of Contents
ToggleOwning a mobile home can be fun, getting away at weekends with the family as well as spending long periods in the summertime, but how safe is your mobile home?
Your mobile home is like an extension of your main home, and as such, needs an annual gas safety check carried out to make sure you and your family will be safe.
So what is a mobile home gas safety inspection?
Just like home, all gas appliances should be inspected and serviced.
But why we only use the mobile for around 10 weeks of the year?
A mobile home gas safety inspection is probably more important to have carried out than your main home because it is not occupied for most of the year, whereas the home is.
So what needs to be checked?
First, we need to find a gas safe registered company who is registered to work on LPG, who can also carry out a mobile home gas safety inspection.
You may already know someone who is gas safe registered, the engineer who checks your main home, but they may not be registered to work on LPG.
The best way to find an LPG engineer is to contact the gas safe register, either through their website or give them a call, they will be able to put you in touch with someone who can work on LPG.
The Checks
First, we need to establish that there is not a gas leak, we do this by carrying out a gas tightness test, this will show up any leaks.
Hoses connected to the gas bottles that supply your mobile with the gas can deteriorate over time and will need to be replaced.
All hoses that are attached to your mobile home have a date stamp on them and as such should be checked and replaced accordingly.
Appliances
Most mobile homes have some form of heating fitted, for the earlier models it may be a gas fire, and the newer models a central heating boiler.
Whatever form of heating is fitted it needs to be checked to make sure it is safe to use.
Gas fires
The gas fire needs to be inspected, making sure the on and off switch is working freely and not hard to turn.
One of the most important checks is to make sure that the fires flue is not blocked, and is removing the products of combustion correctly, in other words not letting carbon monoxide into the room.
As Mobiles are only used for a short space of time over the year, things happen, things like the flues popping out the top of the mobile home getting blocked.
They can get blocked with leaves from overhead trees, even birds making nests, so it’s vital that the mobile home gas safety inspection is carried out.
Boilers
Just like your home, the boiler needs to have an annual service carried out, this is to make sure everything is working as it should be and to make sure it is safe to use.
Cooking appliances
If your mobile has a gas oven and hob, then these need to be checked over as well, just to make sure they are in good working order, and again safe to use.
Site rules
Wherever your home is sited you will find all parks require you to have this mobile home gas safety inspection carried out once a year. They will also like to see the inspection certificate and make a copy for their records.
Renting to friends
There may come a time when you rent your mobile home out to friends to make a little extra money, we all like to make a little extra.
But you now have to get another inspection done, it’s called a landlords gas safety inspection (CP12).
Even if you rent it out for one day, you will need this landlords inspection check.
Conclusion
Having the mobile home gas safety inspection carried out is all about the SAFETY side of it.
Most of the time the mobile home is empty and just like all things when not used they can get stuck or broken when you start to use them again.
Always be happy and have fun on your mobile, but most important be safe.
